It's important that we take a look at the state of the sport equipment regulation. We are being dictated by a rule book that is not even published and as far as we know we are the only company that calls for its publication. We cannot seriously take any more rule changes out of the blue better so bad that they won't send up to public scrutiny. Our company does not deserve this and our players and customer certainly do not deserve this.
To continue the projected expansion of pickleball coefficient of restitution into the expected spin component is another step backwards much like almost every component of this procedure. The usap considers the collision between the ball and the paddle to be perfectly elastic. If this is the case the outbound azimuth should be insignificant as well as the spin. They are considering a collision in which energy is conserved totally. It is not spent in to spend or any derivation in vector of the ball. By their own logic they should not be continuing to test spin. Speaking rationally coefficient of restitution pretty much says it covers it all but we do not agree with that.
What's more is it adds another layer on top of layer of confusion and misrepresentation. Coefficient of restitution is currently set so low that it is unlikely that it can produce any effect on spin that is significant. It is certainly a scientific fact that is provable and has been shown that current level of surface texture that is coefficient of friction has next to no effect on spin. That is not to say it does not have a major effect on your ability to believe that you can spend the ball and that that does not translate to a real consequence.
The point is coefficient of friction is already a broken rule. It controls ball spin by not controlling it and by making it so that the paddle cannot essentially have any effect on ball spin it is totally a player related exercise which it would be regardless. Think about when you started playing whoever you are could you spin the ball very well? If you had a fiberglass versus a generation four paddle would have made much of a difference? For most of us it would not have.
People argue that pickleball will become a game of body shots, game theory, science and professionalism. They consider this a bad thing because they are not professionals and they cannot survive in an environment of real scrutiny by the public. It is to say that what I have described above is the path of pretty much every enduring recreational and professional sport on the planet. You may not like it but you cannot avoid it.
To players you should really wonder why a rulebook with serves that you can't keep up with doesn't matter but you care if the usap comes up with an incoherent procedure and ruins your game. They leave you with paddles that have no function and create a totally stack scenario in which there can never be any equity of play. You will see Ben John's dominate the game forever. Good for him but do you enjoy watching it?
The usap also does not consider the likelihood of the eventuality of this becoming an Olympic sport and the fact that other countries probably will want paddles of some level of quality more than CNC honeycomb. You can bet that China and Russia will try to outdo you if this ever becomes an international sport and they will not play with your paddles. And they should not. You cannot preserve the nostalgic days of this Sports youth forever and you should not seek too.
