What's best for them unfortunately is not best for the sport in general. We are talking about material costs per paddle of 8 oz of thermoplastic. It's a fact that big box brands pay obscenely low prices and mark up at rates almost comparable to the defence industry.
The sport has become increasingly exclusive, expensive, and elusive. As a company that started 5 months ago the inside look we have had of this industry is not pretty. The sport should encourage variation and innovation and technology but should not choose gatekeepers and exclude other ideas. This is already been the usaps MO and even more so organizations that will follow.
We went to emphasize the wide appeal and amazing growth of this sport are things to be nourished not milked until all goodwill is gone. We need to really take a look and have a conversation about where the sport is going.
