Open Statement Regarding CoR

Elasticity as a result of paddle degeneration has been pushed and abused as a cause for perceived increases in ball power. A simple examination of which paddles are the most powerful on the market can give you a lot of clues about where this power is coming from. These paddles are designed differently than hollow celled honeycomb paddles. This is usually through mass distribution whether it be throughout the paddle face or increasingly around the perimeter. Surprise! Pros use lead tape for a reason.

In theory none of these paddles that are generally referred to as generation 3 should be less resistant to bending then conventional paddles or at least as resistant. So why are they hitting harder? The answer is very simple and it is mass distribution. Conventional pickleball paddles are not designed with any particular mechanics in mind except for probably mass production. Introduction of foam into the cells was an inevitable evolution of the paddle and should definitely be considered generation 3. 

However these paddles have been coincidentally referred to as too powerful and a huge leap of logic has been made that this is a result of elasticity. 

Discussion of ball speed is one thing. Another is blatant attempt to control the market through material controls which is exactly what coefficient of restitution is without any real data or justification is simply anti-competitive action on the part of not just major companies but regulatory bodies.

Paddle designs like ours are inevitable developments of the pickleball paddle. They are logical evolution and you can try to compete with them by not competing with them but you cannot pretend that they are not superior paddles and many aspects and a promising technology. We will look at the introduction of coefficient of restitution which is likely to be set at an arbitrary and anti-competitive point just as coefficient of friction is, the simple fact is that players will pick paddles that can improve their game the most. 

Influencers can shill about how major brands are much more trustable despite their obscene prices and terrible performance but the fact that mainstream pickleball almost every way represents the interest of pro play and large brands. 

Better paddles will come no matter how many rules you make. No one wants to play with what we are currently playing with far into the future. Players will demand more. Some companies will try to meet this demand and others that cannot meet this demand will attempt to eliminate the demand.
