Per the email received by manufacturers PBCoR will be introduced at an uncertain date. Mention is made of possible godfathering but that is totally left vague too so essentially the gist of the email was this is coming and go after your competition. Manufacturers should not making these decisions, brands and manufacturers are the last people who's this decision should be in the hands of. This is a matter that should be totally left to players. Data was collected at various venues in the past by the UPA lab PPL but this is just raw data. As far as we know no input was ever taken much less from the public who is the vast majority of players and consumers.
The mention of X-ray testing is very likely going to lead to the essential attempted shadow ban of paddles that use construction other than conventional hollow cores.
It should be noted that power and coefficient of restitution are not necessarily totally connected. We could make it 13 mm paddle that would have a lower weight but probably essentially the same coefficient of restitution for at least very close.
The speeds and angles tested here are essential. The angle should be intermediate such as 45 to 60 degrees and the speed should also be average. If we want to control ball speed and not crush innovation we can put velocity caps on tests. This would allow manufacturers like us to still innovate.
We were very disappointed to find that this email essentially said nothing. If action is taken against their paddles it's kind of a badge of honor that we've only been in the market for 6 months and we're up there with the big guys 😁
